62 New APIs: RadioShack, TomTom and Applicaster

This week we had 62 new APIs added to our API directory including a digital mapping service, natural language personal assistant application, Radioshack developer service, semantic engine service and mobile video content Platform. In addition we covered an API for quoting, booking and tracking shipments. Below are more details on each of these new APIs.

A View From My SeatA View From My Seat API: A View from my Seat provides a suite of services connecting fans to their favorite teams, primarily by providing photos from fans and showing them in seating charts on the team’s website. The A View from my Seat API provides a RESTful interface for developers to enhance their sites and applications with fan photos.

ApplicasterApplicaster API: Applicaster is a platform that helps companies create, customize, and deliver mobile broadcasts to their customers and users. Applicaster offers interactive tools for mobile video and live content.

The Applicaster API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of Applicaster with other applications and to create new applications. Public Documentation is not available; interested developers should contact support@applicaster.com for API information.

Apps for GhentApps for Ghent API: The service provided by the city of Ghent in Belgium encourages open data sharing by companies and other organizations It seeks to make available operating information about a business such as location, hours of operation, product offerings, and prices. The service encourages interoperation and interaction by applications providing information useful to both residents and visitors.

API methods implement protocols of the Data Tank methodology to present open data about government and public services, health and social support functions, demographic information, jobseeking and employment, places of business, tourist attractions and festivals, etc. Returned data provide name and activities associated along with the location, expressed as latitude and longitude.

Avatarion Portrait3DAvatarion Portrait3D API: Based on the Avatarion's Tethys 3D solution, Portraid3D allows developers to create realistic, 3D, animated avatars from image files. The avatars are web publishable through HTTP embed code or can be used in third party applications.

Depending on your desired use, pricing plans run from free (12 avatars/month) to a $1,500 ultra membership (100,000 avatars/month). Image files should ideally contain only one face with as high a resolution as possible.

The REST API creates avatars from a POST file or GET from a designated URL. Response data is formatted in JSON. An account with Mashape is required for usage of the API.

Baseball IpsumBaseball Ipsum API: Self-described as a shameless knock-off of Bacon Ipsum, Baseball Ipsum is placeholder text generator built around baseball related words. The Baseball Ipsum API provides a simple RESTful interface and returns JSON formatted data.

Bavarian Authorities SignpostBavarian Authorities Signpost API: Bayerischer Behördenwegweiser (trans. Bavarian Authorities Signpost) provides an API for retrieving information on local services, living conditions, authorities, addresses, and contacts from the City Administrations within Bavaria. This API uses SOAP calls issued in XML format. The Bavarian Authorities Signpost website and API documentation are only provided in German.

BibliotekBibliotek API: Bibliotek is not a Library itself, but rather a database of items held by Danish public libraries. Bibliotek provides online access to the records of all items published in Denmark as well as all items found in Danish public and research libraries. Denmark-based users can place requests for items at their local library, even if the library does not normally carry the desired item. Certain items - such as DVDs and VHS tapes - may be unavailable to non-local borrowers. A warning will appear in the records of any items that may be unavailable.

Bibliotek also allows users to check their loans and reservations at their favorite libraries, as well as ask for renewals and delete reservations. If the user's library doesn't yet provide their borrower data to Bibliotek, a link to the library's website will be provided instead.

Users may also search Bibliotek's item database using either a web interface or a SOAP-based API. The Bibliotek website is offered in both Danish and English, though parts of the site (including the API documentation) are provided solely in Danish.

BODC NERC Vocabulary ServerBODC NERC Vocabulary Server API: The British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC) is a national facility for maintaining and distributing data concerning the marine environment. It provides several web services for implementing this data, including the NERC Vocabulary Server. The Vocabulary Server provides access to lists of standard terms used for oceanographic metadata, including descriptions of data, platforms, instruments, and geographic locations.

Using standardized sets of terms solves the problem of ambiguities associated with data markup and also enables records to be interpreted by computers. This opens up possibilities for computer aided manipulation, distribution, and long-term reuse. The BODC NERC Vocabulary Server can be accessed programmatically using SOAP calls issued in XML format.

CanDoo SMSCanDoo SMS API: The service provides SMS text messaging to mobile phones within Iran. It allows an application to send a message specified in the request to one or many recipients, up to 90 numbers per request. The service also can handle replies and inbound messaging, with account credit balance checks and reporting of delivery success and failure rates.

API methods support submitting a request with message body, recipient phone number, and encoding details. Methods also support review of unread text messages received by the account, with message body and date-time stamp according to the Jalali calendar used in Iran. The API makes available reports of completed message delivery and message failure for sent SMS messages and current account balance. The site is in Persian.

Chicago Boundary ServiceChicago Boundary Service API: The Chicago Boundary Service is a Chicago Tribune project that provides geographic and political boundary information for Illinois. The Boundary Service API provides a RESTful interface to that data. Results are returned in JSON or JSONP formatted data with nested GeoJSON for describing boundary shapes.

Clearhaus GatewayClearhaus Gateway API: Clearhaus is an emerging European payment transaction provider. The Clearhaus Gateway API provides a RESTful interface for processing transactions. Endpoints are discoverable directly through the API, with supported calls including, debits, credits, and much more.

Clearhaus ResolveClearhaus Resolve API: Clearhaus is an emerging European payment transaction provider. The Clearhaus Resolve API provides Resource discoverability services including chargebacks, data uploads, and retrieval requests. Endpoints are discoverable directly through the API.

ClevertimClevertim API: Clevertim is a customer relationship management system (CRM) for small businesses. Clevertim allows users to manage their customer contact information and track history of customers.

The Clevertim API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of Clevertim with other applications. Some example API methods include managing contacts, retrieving reminders and opportunities, and managing notes.

Coops N MoreCoops N More API: Coops N More makes and sells quality chicken coops, hen houses, chicken runs, mobile chicken coops, automatic chicken feeders, waterers, and more. They specialize in building affordable equipment for urban chicken farmers. If they don't have the specific item a customer is looking for, they can often custom-build one.

Coops N More uses a SOAP-based address validation API as part of their shipping process.

EarthChemEarthChem API: The service provides a platform for data sharing and queries serving researchers in geology and related sciences. It focuses especially on data related to chemistry, chronology, and petroleum exploration and production. The Portal originated with support of the U.S. National Science Foundation to give federated access to major geochemical databases from the U.S. Geological Service and other international providers.

API methods support search for datasets from published research by author name, article title, journal name, year of publication, or keyword character string. Results can be filtered by date range, either for publication or data collection, and location specified as a mapping polygon or with less specific identifiers. Results may also be limited to specific characteristics of data samples such as materials or chemical compounds and chonological age of the minerals sampled.

EgnyteEgnyte API: The service provides a platform for online storage and hosting with controls via WebDAV protocol as well as command-line interactions. The API allows access to both a user's shared and private folders to update configuration and assets stored.

API methods support CRUD functionality (create, update, retrieve, and delete) for files stored via the service and the folder structure in which they are organized. Methods also provide control of service user access and permissions to enable updates of stored resources by appropriate people.

ERMAHGERD TranslatorERMAHGERD Translator API: The ERMAHGERD Translator API changes regular English phrases, words or sentences into the meme-speak of the Ermahgerd meme.

The REST based service with JSON returns is hosted by Mashape and requires an account with the service. Up to 10 daily translations are free, after that you can purchase a basic account for $5.00/month that provides 1.000 daily translations.

EverytimeEverytime API: Everytime is a tool that allows people to save and share music and video from the web or computer. Media can be shared either publicly or privately, as well as bookmarked on the user's browser.

The Everytime API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of Everytime with other applications and to create new applications. Some example API methods include retrieving media and files, posting media and files, and managing playlists.

FlixwagonFlixwagon API: Flixwagon is a video sharing and social networking platform. Flixwagon allows users to create videos in real time and share them live.

The Flixwagon API allows developers to integrate the functionality of Flixwagon with other applications and websites. Public documentation is not available; interested developers should contact solutions@flixwagon.com for API details.

GreenQloudGreenQloud API: The service provides cloud storage and hosting capabilities with ease of Scaling and configuration to maximize environmentally friendly operations. Security protections include SSH keys and Encryption with hardware-level separation between network resources. Performance dashboards provide indicators of operations to inform configuration decisions for scaling, energy use, and other parameters.

API methods support management of system resources in ways compatible with Amazon Web Service (AWS) protocols for familiar control and interoperation with third-party solutions. Performance reporting methods support agile configuration according to current operating conditions.

Houston MetroHouston Metro API: Houston Metro is Houston's transit system. The Houston Metro API allows developers to access and integrate the information and data about Houston Metro routes with other applications and to create new applications. Some example API methods include retrieving lists of routes, listing route directions, and retrieving transit stops and timetables.

Illumina BaseSpaceIllumina BaseSpace API: BaseSpace by Illumina is a application for genetic data and analysis and genomics cloud computing.

The BaseSpace API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of BaseSpace with other applications and to create new applications for data analysis and visualization. Some example API methods include managing users, creating and managing projects, and running analysis.

Integrated Earth Data ApplicationsIntegrated Earth Data Applications API: The service provides geology data and mapping through a set of web services built on the MapService platform of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). That architecture exposes datasets to a number of OGC-compliant desktop clients as well as the service's own REST and SOAP APIs. Data include datasets for seismograph recordings and geological sample profiles from the System for Earth Sample Registration (SESAR).

API methods support queries against XML records of seismology datasets recording earthquakes and other geological events. Methods also support retrieval of analytical data for samples of rock, minerals, and other geological materials by universal identifiers created at the time the samples are collected. Methods for managing samples also allow uploading of new records documenting sample collections for users who have registered accounts with the service.

IRESSIRESS API: IRESS is an international supplier of share market and wealth management systems. They provide an equity information and trading platform along with an extensive suite of financial planning tools. IRESS clients vary and can range from large corporations to independent operators.

The SOAP-based IRESS API provides access to market data, order, and portfolio systems, enabling clients to integrate IRESS with their existing solutions.

IRIS Seismographs in SchoolsIRIS Seismographs in Schools API: Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology’s Seismographs in Schools Program provides real-time seismic data and other research tools to a nationwide network of participating teachers. The IRIS Seismographs in Schools API provides developers with a RESTful interface for automating access to IRIS SIS data.

JChem ChemAxonJChem ChemAxon API: The service provides a number of tools for research in chemistry and related fields. Search functions help to provide definitions of chemical terms and to identify compounds based on atomic structure. Other functions describe markush operations, molecular conversions, and reactions between compounds.

JChem Web Services provides a web interface that extends access to ChemAxon tools over the Internet or an internal network. This interface makes it easy to integrate chemistry tools into your own web applications. JChem Web Services can be setup on any server environment that runs Java.

Kinsey ReporterKinsey Reporter API: The service provides a survey platform accessed via mobile devices to contribute anonymous, crowd-sourced reports on sexual topics. It provides functions for contributing reports and for reviewing submissions along with summaries and visualizations of collected data. The service is sponsored by the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University and provides submitted data as submitted without any review or verification.

API methods support retrieval of data collected from submissions by the Kinsey Reporter mobile apps. Requests can retrieve either listings that summarize multiple crowdsourced contributions or detail of individual contributions. Contributions may be reports documenting sexual activity, survey questions and responses, or descriptive tags.

KompozKompoz API: Kompoz is an online, free, music collaboration service. It allows users to upload music tracks to the community and invite other Kompoz users to add to the track (guitars, vocals, effects and more). Users also have an individual forum for their account where you can share ideas, suggestions and more with the public community about your music.

While public collaborations are free for members, users can also upgrade to the "Plus" tier and enjoy access to non-compressed audio file uploads, desktop file transfer applications and publishing permission to the mobile radio channel along with multiple simultaneous uploads and other features. Monthly prices start at $5 with an annual, yearly subscription available for $50.

The Kompoz API allows utilizes a REST-like structure with GET and POST calls and JSON and XML returns. Developers or other interested users of the API can interact directly with the Kompoz platform to create applications for the Kompoz community. The API allows access to: member, project, project track, song, radio and utility services.

Laximo AfterMarketLaximo AfterMarket API: Laximo AfterMarket is a Russian website that provides information on car components for both the primary and secondary markets. Because it not only allows users to obtain component information, but also to rate the reliability of that information, it forms a rich online resource for professionals who trade in automotive parts. Laximo also offers a searchable catalog of spare parts for sale. Laximo's information and spare parts catalog can be integrated with other websites using the Laximo AfterMarket SOAP API. The website is provided solely in Russian.

Lieberman'sLieberman's API: The service provides for interaction with its e-commerce platform selling posters and fine-art prints online. Applications can place orders with the service for products from its catalog, including frames for displaying prints. Applications can also check status of existing orders and obtain shipment tracking information.

API methods support retrieval of order pricing based on products selected and placement of a final order with the service. Methods also support management of shipping information, including destination country and shipment status.

Lime CellularLime Cellular API: The service provides services for outbound marketing and promotion campaigns, including mass email and SMS text messaging. Applications can use the services for communication opt-in forms, deliver advertising and manage advertiser relationships, and trigger communications based on user clicks or other selection of keywords.

API methods support one-way, outbound SMS messaging with message body and recipient mobile device numbers specified in the request. Methods also support sending poll or survey messages and processing responses from recipients. The API provides functions for advertiser accounts and for managing opt-in and opt-out requests to update communication preferences.

Lorem Ipsum MeLorem Ipsum Me API: Lorem Ipsum Me is a lorem ipsum tool that generates placeholder text in either essay or blog format. The Lorem Ipsum Me API provides a simple REST interface for generating JSON, plain text, or XML formatted text.

Loripsum.netLoripsum.net API: Loripsum is a lorem ipsum tool that generates placeholder text. Users can customize the number of paragraphs, paragraph length, and a variety of formatting options. The Loripsum API allows developers to access customized placeholder text formatted as HTML or plain text.

Maluuba Natural LanguageMaluuba Natural Language API: Maluuba is a phone assistant app that uses natural voice recognition technology to turn users commands into actions. It can work with features such as calendar, reminders, weather, search, voice calls, email and more. The Maluuba API works across two main functionalities; interpreting the meaning of phrases and finding normalized values for dates and times. The API uses RESTful calls and responses are formatted in JSON.

Market Intelligence NetworkMarket Intelligence Network API: Market Intelligence Network is a geospatial tool that displays and analyzes IHS (Information Handling Services) vessel movement data. It can track global vessel positions live and assess voyage destination and port calling data. This enables users to visualize the flow of oil products, coal, LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), chemicals, methanol, and LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) between regions and ports. For specific voyages, users can set up real-time alerts to monitor vessel availability and receive an alert as soon as a planned cargo sets sail. Market Intelligence Network also provides vessel movement histories, vessel characteristics and photos, fixtures data, port data, and customized reporting by vessel and port.

Myallocator.comMyallocator.com API: Myallocator.com is a platform for hotels, hostels, and other lodging companies to update their accommodations and information on many online travel sites.

The Myallocator.com API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of Myallocator.com with other applications and to create new applications. Some example API methods include managing listings, retrieving price and accommodation information, and managing users.

National Map Elevation QueryNational Map Elevation Query API: The service from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center provides topographic and terrain information to complement mapping locations. It returns the elevation for a specific location, specified as latitude and longitude. Measurements come from the USGS Seamless Elevation datasets. Where multiple elevation values are available, the service returns those from the data sources with the highest resolution.

API methods support submission of a request for one or more elevation values with each location specified as a latitude-longitude pair. The API returns the best-available measure for each location denominated in either feet or meters, as specified in the request.

Nifty CloudNifty Cloud API: Nifty Cloud is a public cloud computing IaaS service featuring server resources that are available on-demand. An hourly fee is charged for using these resources, and users can pay as they go. Nifty Cloud can be run from an online control panel or by using a SOAP-based API. The API enables users to programmatically run program operations such as startup and shutdown, or to check the status of servers and disks that they've created. Nifty Cloud is only available in Japanese.

Open SpreetyOpen Spreety API: The service provides lookup access to an extensive database of video and media content available in varying formats and from different suppliers. Video resource listings are categorized by genre and other content categories and provider along with more technical criteria like file format, image size and quality, and access location.

API methods support access to the record for a specific video by unique identifier or to listings by format, genre, decade, recently added or new, and other filtering criteria. Methods also allow search against the database for a character string specified in the request. Methods return descriptions of matching videos with still image, provider, and access URL.

OpenADROpenADR API: Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR) is an open and standardized way for electricity providers and system operators to communicate Demand Response (DR) signals with each other and with their customers. It uses a common language that functions over any IP-based communications network, such as the Internet.

Demand Response can be used to ease severely constrained electrical grids, postponing or even averting energy crises. Automated Demand Response (ADR) reduces the operating costs of DR programs and increases their reliability by sending and receiving DR signals automatically.

The OpenADR provides programmatic access to the OpenADR specification so that developers may access and implement it with their grid management systems. This API employs SOAP calls issued in XML format.

PirateplayPirateplay API: Pirateplay is a Swedish video streaming service that allows users access to streams of Swedish television (SVT Play, Channel 5 Play, TV3 Play, TV4 play and more) along with a library of useful resources and a downloadable player client for online television services.

The API returns listings of supported content providers and lists of streaming URLs and metadata information using GET with returns in either JSON or XML.

pospsposps API: The posps web service defines an interface between a point of sale (POS) and a pharmacy's IT system (PS). Posps' goal is to reuse the business logic and data storage that exist in the pharmacy's IT systems for new points of sale. This allows a POS that's been newly integrated by the pharmacy to present the full functionality and knowledge of the PS without the need to redundantly store and update data across systems.

The posps interface can be programmatically integrated with pharmaceutical systems using its SOAP-based API.

RadarmaticRadarmatic API: Radarmatic provides a JSON data Feed representing measured precipitation from 200 weather radar stations, both within and outside the continental United States. Radar data come from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which aggregates and provides the data either in real time or with only short delays. The service caches the NOAA feeds and generates JSON output.

API methods support requests specifying a radar reporting station to retrieve data representing its most recent report of precipitation. Only one station may be specified at a time currently. The JSON output allows creation of images in the browser to recreate conditions detected by the reporting station. Requests can also retrieve data for radar readings previous to the current one.

RadioshackRadioshack API: Radioshack's cloud-based API suite allows customers the ability to create 3rd party applications that utilize the company's online site information about: coupons, store locations and product availability.

The Store Locations API allows you to find the nearest Radioshack store based on a determined location and features a GET request for closest stores and a call for the current API version. Information from the Product Availability API includes: access to current stock levels (by SKU) and nearby stores, locations and distance to the nearest stores. The Coupon API allows consumers access to Radioshack's various coupons.

The APIs are REST based and semi-open (with login keys) and support returns in JSON and XML data formats.

RadMapRadMap API: The service provides a mapped image for U.S. weather conditions as detected by NEXRAD weather radar stations. Also available are GOES imagery created by geostationary weather satellites for inclusion in GIS output, local storm reports, and warnings and watches issued by county authorities.

API methods support submission of a query with URL parameters that specify location, desired image size, and technical specifications for radar data to be selected. Returned data provide a link to a PNG image showing the most recently recorded radar results illustrated as storm cells, cloud cover, and related weather phenomena. Methods allow specification of location by named places according to the list in the 2010 U.S. Census.

SAI Virtual Observatory WCS FixSAI Virtual Observatory WCS Fix API: The SAI Virtual Observatory provides the WCS Fix service to automatically match stars in FITS images with cataloged data and add the correct WCS (World Coordinate System) keywords to the image's header. FITS (Flexible Image Transport System) is the standard data format used in astronomy. It is used for the transport, analysis, and archival storage of scientific data sets.

Users may access the WCS Fix service directly through the SAI Virtual Observatory website or programmatically using either SOAP or REST calls.

SBUYSMSSBUYSMS API: The service from Thailand provides messaging to Thai customers and mobile phones within the country. It allows applications to send individual text messages or bulk messages to specified numbers via SMS technology. A variety of protocols are available.

API methods support submission of a request with a mobile device number and message body, which the service will process and deliver. Bulk messaging requests can specify a group of phone numbers to receive the submitted message. Methods also support administrative functions such as reporting of message status and available balance.

SearchBoxSearchBox API: SearchBox is a text analytics, semantic search, and content intelligence service that transforms raw text into manageable content and that is categorized and searchable. The SearchBox API provides a set of tools including but not limited to, semantic indexing, auto-categorization, suggested/related content, and FT & concept search. The API uses REST calls and require HTTP basic Authentication.

Sermon BrowserSermon Browser API: The service provides lookup access to texts from the Judeo-Christian Bible from multiple versions and in various languages. Biblical scholars have access to dozens of versions and translations into many language. Other services provide verses from specific versions in particular languages, but this one seeks to span all available options.

API methods support submission of requests specifying the passage desired by book name, chapter, and verse number, with options for version (with King James Version in English as the default). Version parameters also specify the desired language. Returned data include text along with the book, chapter, and verse referenced for up to 500 verses per request.

Setu InfocomSetu Infocom API: The service provides voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephony with a number of features designed to give low-cost voice communications. Applications can schedule and send mass phone calls to recipient lists and play a message recorded in a file uploaded with the request. Applications can initiate VoIP calls with buttons or other controls on a web page or initiate Callback services that reconnect a local call to a remote recipient via inexpensive VoIP connections.

API methods support Voice Blast to deliver a recorded voice message to specified recipients, from one or a few to a long list. Methods also support voice call functions initiated by controls embedded in web page HTML. The SetuBilling API supports resellers in developing their own click-to-call solutions. A callback API allows a voice call to a local number to trigger a new call between the same parties, local or remote to one another, via VoIP.

SpeedskatingResults.comSpeedskatingResults.com API: SpeedskatingResults.com provides long track metric competition results from ovals worldwide. The SpeedskatingResults.com API provides developer access to results data including a skater’s personal records or season bests, competition lists, and seed times. Results are XML formatted.

SprawkSprawk API: Sprawk is devoted to providing you with a broad array of online language translation services. Freelance translators all around the globe contribute to the over 3.9 million entries in English as well as other languages. The service allows websites to check for accuracy in their translations as well define your translations by a certain style (Oxford, Chicago, AP) and automatically translate texts from over 20 languages.

The Sprawk Language Detection and Capitalization API allows you to detect the language a website or text file is written in as well as the probability of other languages the text might be written in. The API utilizes GET with returns in JSON.

The service allows up to 2,000 free daily lookups with a premium tier ($9.99/month) that allows up to 10,000 daily lookups.

TemandoTemando API: Temando is an online portal to over 200 shipping services suitable for both businesses and individuals. Visitors can input the dimensions, weight, point of origin, and destination of a shipment to retrieve a list of quotes and estimated shipping times. Along with getting quotes, users can also book and track their shipments without leaving the site. All of Temando's functions are available for Integration with other sites and services using SOAP calls issued in XML format.

TemplateCloudTemplateCloud API: TemplateCloud is an online marketplace for buying and selling design templates for a variety of materials like business cards, flyers, stationary, and postcards.

The TemplateCloud API allows developers to access and integrate the marketplace Function with other applications. Some example API methods include managing templates, setting information about templates, and creating instances.

TenHandsTenHands API: TenHands is a video conferencing and collaboration service. TenHands can be integrated with collaboration applications such as Google, DropBox, Box, and LogMeIn.

The TenHands API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of TenHands with other applications. Some example API methods include managing users, managing and listing groups, and creating groups and conferences.

Textpresso for NeuroscienceTextpresso for Neuroscience API: Textpresso is an information extraction and processing service for biological literature developed by the California Institute of Technology. Textpresso performs full text literature searches, text classification and mining, and linking of biological entities found in articles to online databases. Textpresso for Neuroscience is a web service that enables users to search the full text of articles and documents for neuroscience information. This service can be accessed programmatically using SOAP calls issued in XML format.

TomTom GeocodingTomTom Geocoding API: The service generates precise geolocation and mapping coordinates and standardized addresses based on user or application input specifying a location in varying formats. It also provides information relevant to the location, including businesses and other organizations nearby, geographic features, and places of interest. The precision of geolocation is influenced by the detail of data submitted to the service. General information about the location will return a neighborhood, postal code, or street, while more specific information can be resolved to a precise physical address.

API methods support submission of known location data, either as free text or structured parameters. Optional parameters include the street or thoroughfare, the section or specific spot along that thoroughfare, the postal code, and the district or neighborhood, city, state or province, and any other administrative zone (e.g., a county).
