66 New APIs: Sony Online Entertainment, Refinder and Continuuity

This week we had 66 new APIs added to our API directory including a scholar impact rating service, cross-repository search service, online gaming data service, Big Data application builder and internet proxy service. In addition we covered an API for easy image modification. Below are more details on each of these new APIs.

9flats9flats API: 9flats is a service for those who want to book a place or rent out a room, apartment or house, across the world. Users can rent out single rooms or entire locations for a single night or an extended period of time. The site offers travelers a cheap way to travel and people with extra rooms a way to earn some extra cash. The 9flats API allows users to access the site's information.

AllmenusAllmenus API: Allmenus is a food-centered site that is broken up by cities and states and allows users to search for restaurant menus. Users can search by state and then by city then by cuisine type or dish to retrieve restaurant, menu, and reservation options. The Allmenus API allows users to query all data contained within the Allmenu database. The API uses REST calls, returns XML, and requires an API Key for access.

BitfloorBitfloor API: Bitfloor is an online bitcoin trading Platform. Users can trade bitcoins and transfer funds to accounts and wire payments.

The Bitfloor API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality and data of Bitfloor with other applications. Some example API methods include retrieving market data, managing account information, and creating and managing orders.

BonsaiBonsai API: Bonsai is an online graphics Library. Bonsai provides features such as rendering, asset management, paths, and other image and video management tools.

The Bonsai API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of Bonsai with other applications. Some example API methods include managing events, rendering images and videos, and managing images, graphics, and videos.

Bring CargoBring Cargo API: The service provides free public access to rate quotes for shipping within Scandinavia and northern Europe along with supporting information about postal code zones and pickup locations plus Integration for logged-in customers to book shipments. The Shipping Guide provides price, service areas, and or delivery time estimates for the provider's shipping services, which allows an application to present options and let customers choose based on delivery speed and convenience versus cost. Supporting functions specify delivery zones and pickup locations served by the provider, grouped by postal code. A booking API allows completion and scheduling of a shipping transaction, and a tracking API updates current status for a shipment.

API methods support specification of shipment characteristics -- items shipped, weight, pickup and delivery locations, etc. -- to generate a rate quote and delivery time estimate. Methods also allow acceptance of a quote and booking of a shipment, with completion of payment and scheduling of shipment pickup.

Concord FaxConcord Fax API: Concord Fax is a provider of enterprise online fax services. Concord’s Developer Portal provides online support, best practice guidance and Sample Code for customers utilizing Concord’s many fax service and account management APIs.

Concord’s Fax Online platform supports a comprehensive Web Services API for integrating fax into 3rd party applications and internal business systems and processes. Concord’s Web Services API facilitate the automation of inbound and outbound faxing, as well as reporting, provisioning, administration and management of all fax communications and a broad range of functions via both Push and Pull methods.

ContinuuityContinuuity API: Continuuity is a service that helps users build applications based on big data. Continuuity offers application hosting in the cloud, tools and features to build applications, and data storage.

CS50CS50 API: CS50 is an introductory programming course offered through Harvard University. Instructor David Malan has made avaialable a set of APIs for use with the class. These APIs include the following:

Daily-Proxies.comDaily-Proxies.com API: Daily-Proxies.com is a service that provides users with well-tested and functional proxies for the use with many different Internet applications. An API is provided that lets users import tested and fresh proxies several times per day directly into their own applications, without any manual effort. The API uses HTTP calls and responses are formatted in HTML or Text.

EaupenEaupen API: Eaupen provides an extensive map of places in Paris with free, publicly accessible drinking water. Such places include drinking fountains as well as restaurants, cafes, and shops. The Eaupen API lets users retrieve the closest free drinking water location based on their latitude and longitude. The Eaupen website in provided in French, but the API documentation is given in English.

EnClout URL ParserEnClout URL Parser API: EnClout is interested in bringing data together from multiple sources and solve the data silo for businesses. EnClout provides a suite of domain related APIs.

The URL Parser API takes a URL or domain as input and returns parsed IDN (internationalized domain name) records in JSON, XML or HTML format.

EnrichNetEnrichNet API: The service provides analysis of expected functional associations between genes and proteins submitted as a list. It also generates cellular processes, pathways, and complexes associated with the listed genes and proteins. Analysis results provide statistical rating of the importance of overlapping functional characteristics between lists of genes or proteins.

API methods support submission of one or more genes or proteins specified by standard protocols (ensembl, HGNC symbol, etc.) along with the database to provide functional characteristics for the analysis. For larger batch analysis, methods allow uploads of files with tab-delimited values specifying the genes/proteins and interactions to be analyzed.

EPA Environmental Dataset GatewayEPA Environmental Dataset Gateway API: The service provides access to a number of datasets containing recorded levels of environmental variables measured and tracked by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. A number of datasets document various monitoring programs over time tracking pollutants and environmental conditions affecting air quality, water quality, and land-borne contaminants. EPA staff and contractors can access both current and historical data via the service, built as an instance of ESRI Geoportal Server.

API methods support listing of available datasets and selection of desired data based on location and conditions of interest to a researcher. Methods also support retrieval of desired datasets in formats suitable for further analysis.

Essent CompassConnectorEssent CompassConnector API: The service provides hosted catalog functionality and transaction processing for turnkey e-commerce sites. Integration possibilities include interaction with third-party systems business intelligence and analytics services and content websites. It allows creation and management of product records for web display with add-to-cart and checkout functions to complete sales, process fulfillment orders, perform accounting functions, and related activities.

API methods support interaction with the business objects managed by the system. Methods handle creation, updating, and deletion of catalog entries and related functions for managing an online storefront. Methods also support transaction processing as well as reporting on sales and other interactions with the storefront for business analytics and intelligence reviews.

European VAT Number Validation European VAT Number Validation API: The European VAT Number Validation API provides a simple call to help developers validate European Union value added tax numbers through a RESTful API. This API uses data from the European Commission. Results are JSON or JSONP formatted.

ExaminareExaminare API: Examinare is an online survey tool. Examinare allows users to create online surveys to gather feedback and opinions from their customers and audiences.

The Examinare API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of Examinare with other applications. Some example API methods include managing recipients, retrieving survey results, and managing and sending surveys.

FakeCreditCardGeneratorFakeCreditCardGenerator API: FakeCreditCardGenerator allows users to create fake credit card numbers that come with expiration dates and CVV2 numbers. The service is designed to allow people retain their anonymity online, as well as use the fake numbers in programming test environments without risking charging an actual card number. An API key is required for access.

FastlyFastly API: Fastly is a CDN platform that allows users to manage their website architecture. Fastly offers analytics, reports, caching, and purging features.

The Fastly API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of Fastly with other applications and websites. Some example API methods include managing cache settings, managing customer and account information, and retrieving analytics and statistics.

Follw.itFollw.it API: Follw.it is an online social community to follow, discuss, rate, and recommend TV shows and movies. Follw.it allows users to connect with other fans of TV shows and movies and make recommendations, see what their friends are watching, and discover new content.

The Follw.it API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of Follw.it with other applications and to create new applications. Some example API methods include retrieving movies and TV shows information, viewing user profiles and collections, and listing TV shows and movies.

Galleria.ioGalleria.io API: Galleria is a JavaScript image gallery Framework that allows users to create and manage web and mobile image galleries. Galleria offers different themes for different design looks of galleries.

The Galleria API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of Galleria with other applications and to create new applications. Some example API methods include playing slideshows, managing images, and editing images.

GoNudge SMSGoNudge SMS API: The service provides messaging via SMS text and email, both for individual contacts and mass promotional campaigns. It integrates contacts with customers and clients, either as part of blast messaging campaigns or as individual alerts triggered by transactions or other events. It emphasizes contacts and ongoing interactions via mobile device to promote customer loyalty such as appointment reminders, service alerts, coupons, and other communications.

API methods support creating and scheduling communications, including messaging mode (SMS or email), recipient contact information, message body, and delivery timing. Methods also accept and route replies, including unsubscribe requests. Reporting functions provide updates on delivery success rates and other service metrics.

HabboHabbo API: Habbo is an online game where users can create their own profile, play games with others, chat, and create things within the game.

The Habbo API allows developers to access Habbo and publish new and existing games on Habbo. Game developers can run their games on their servers and the API gives them access to Habbo’s social graph and monetization. Some example API methods include managing account information, retrieving player information and scores, and retrieving achievement information.

Historical currency converterHistorical currency converter API: The service provides historical exchange rates for selected currency pairs using data from the U.S. Federal Reserve System and the European Central Bank (ECB). It can provide either current exchange rates or values in effect on specified dates starting in 1971. Exchange rates are available for more than 170 world currencies.

API methods support retrieval of the latest exchange rate for a specified pair of currencies. Methods also provide a historical rate for a pair of currencies on a specified date or a range of exchange rates in effect between specified start and end dates.

ImageFlyImageFly API: ImageFly is a image editing service. ImageFly offers image editing features, such as resizing images, creating thumbnails, and cropping images.

The ImageFly API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of ImageFly with other applications. Some example API methods include resizing images, cropping images, converting images, and creating thumbnails.

iServeiServe API: The service provides access to lists and descriptions of web services and APIs. It attempts to catalog API-driven web services and semantically describe and link them, both by direct annotation and by automated analysis of the data available. It publishes descriptions of the services it catalogs as Linked Data to support discovery of those services.

API methods support search across web applications and identification of those that appear to document APIs that provide for interaction with web services. Methods allow annotation and description of the services discovered as well as automated analysis to determine the topics addressed and application functionality provided. The API gives access to RDF/XML descriptions that allow interaction with the catalog via Linked Data technologies.

Landcare Research Information ServiceLandcare Research Information Service API: The service provides a map-based interface to access data about environmental conditions in New Zealand. The provider maintains a repository of scientific datasets reporting measures of water and air quality, pollution, biosphere health, and other environmental conditions, and the service employs the Koordinates format to make the data available in a machine-processable interface with geolocation and mapping coordinates.
It supports direct queries to retrieve data directly along with mapping and spatial analyses via geographic information systems (GIS).

API methods support Web Feature Service (OGC WFS) protocols to create vector layers for import into GIS and other mapping applications. Methods also integrate with other New Zealand mapping functions providing topographic data, forestation and land-cover data, and other conditions.

Level FourLevel Four API: Level Four AB is a Swedish company that helps people develop information retrieval services. The Level Four search server is designed to be easily integrated with other product and services. It supports multiple languages, millions of indexed documents, and real-time indexing. It provides programmatically accessible methods for tag suggestion, language detection, text extraction, and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) scanning.

LololyricsLololyrics API: Lololyrics is an online lyrics database that specializes in lyrics for Electronic music, including genres such as Dance, House, Trance, Dubstep, Hardstyle, and Hardcore. All lyrics are reviewed and listened to in full by moderators before appearing on the site. The Lololyrics API enables users to programmatically retrieve song lyrics from the website using RESTful calls.

MercheeMerchee API: Merchee is an online and mobile application that allows users to accept payments and manage recurrent payments and subscription billing for their goods and services.

The Merchee API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of Merchee with other applications and to create new applications. Some example API methods include managing user information, managing customer information, and retrieving transaction details.

MERLOTMERLOT API: The service, formally named Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching, provides access to a resource collection and instructional resources to support online instruction, including course outlines, speaker notes, learning assessments, and study notes. Varying access levels include basic and advanced search for materials, search across membership lists, development of personal collections, and contribution of both new materials and comments on existing ones.

API methods support search against the MERLOT resource collection, either single-box keyword match or advanced search against specific data fields. Methods also support compiling custom personal resource collections and contributions of new materials, either information sources or instructional aides, to the collection.

MyqrMyqr API: Myqr is a free QR code generator. Through use of the generator tool, users can customize their QR codes with their choice of color. The API allows users to integrate the functionality of the code generator into their own systems and uses RESTful calls.

Ninefold Online StorageNinefold Online Storage API: The service is described as an Australian alternative to Amazon AWS. It provides a platform for application hosting and online data storage in the cloud, with capabilities for virtual server installations and shared file repositories. Cloud Compute functionality includes establishing and configuring a virtual machine, then installing and managing software using those resources. Cloud Storage functionality includes creating storage structures, setting access permissions, and uploading, replacing, and deleting files.

API methods support creating and configuring virtual machines and managing applications running on those platforms. Methods also support establishing storage locations and access criteria, with full create-retrieve-update-delete ( CRUD) controls. The API gives complete control of descriptive metadata assigned and maintained for all resources on the platform.

OiDViEW MIBOiDViEW MIB API: OiDViEW MIB API allows users to query the online SNMP MIB database from anywhere in the world. There are thousands of public domain MIBs from hundreds of Network Management vendors in the MIB database. These MIBs are usually updated weekly. To use the API, users need a key which must be included with all requests. It is freely available for non-commercial use by any developer and may be licensed for commercial use. The API uses RESTful calls and responses are formatted in XML and JSON.

PayJunctionPayJunction API: PayJunction is a secure credit card processing service. Users of PayJunction can accept credit card payments on their websites, in their offices/stores, and via mobile phones.

The PayJunction API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of PayJunction with other applications. Some example API methods include retrieving receipts and electronic signatures, managing payments, and accessing customer details.

PhocoderPhocoder API: Phocoder is an application that allows developers to add photo handling capabilities to applications. With the Phocoder API, developers can access and integrate the functionality of Phocoder with other applications and create new applications. Some example API methods include creating jobs, managing photos, and merging photo files.

PictobarPictobar API: Pictobar is a website where users can describe people in a number of different ways, on a number of personality traits, and gain some insight into how people are perceived by the people that know them to different degrees.

To use the API, submit a full name and Pictobar will return personality information about the person. From adjectives that describe them directly, percent introversion/extroversion, to a 1-5 star scale of how people see the person on: Attractiveness, Friendliness, Openness, Selflessness, and Thoughtfulness, and how people see the person on a sliding scale of bad to good.

An API is available that lets users pass a name to URL using GET in the field 'sid' or POST using 'sid' and returns a JSON or JSONP (if the Callback field is included in url). The API returns {'exists': false}, if person has not been created on Pictobar.

Play Truly RandomPlay Truly Random API: Play Truly Random is a Web Service that provides physics-based random bits for games and interactive media, and derives randomness from game processes. Play Truly Random’s entropy bit pool is derived physical sources such as thermal noise analog electronic circuits, the radioactive decay, and atmospheric shot noise.
The Play Truly Random API provides a RESTful interface for retrieving bit pool data, submitting random bits, and tracking usage statistics.

PleiadesPleiades API: Pleiades is a community-built geographical dictionary and map of ancient places. An outgrowth of the Classical Atlas Project and the Barrington Atlas of the Greek and Roman World, it associates names and locations in time and provides structured information about these entities. Pleiades also serves as a vocabulary for talking about the geography of the ancient world within Linked Data sets.

Pleiades provides a RESTful API that enables users to retrieve lists of places, locations, and names as well as data about individual ancient places.

PluploadPlupload API: Plupload is an online service that allows users to upload files and batches of files using Flash, HTML5, Silverlight, and other technologies.

The Plupload API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of Plupload with other applications. Some example API methods include uploading files, managing files, and creating and managing batches.

POLipaymentsPOLipayments API: The service provides online payments via direct interaction with the buyer's bank to order a payment and the merchant's bank to deliver the payment. A seller application provides for product selection and purchase, then hands off the transaction to the payment service. It establishes contact with the buyer's bank on the buyer's behalf and submits a payment request URL. It then generates a credit URL for the seller's bank to complete transfer of the funds.

API methods support listing of banks that interact with the service, allowing an application to let the buyer choose. Methods then generate the payment request in the format accepted by the chosen bank and the confirmation notice to the seller's bank. "Nudge" methods provide updates to the buyer and seller upon completion of the transaction.

PosterOvenPosterOven API: PosterOven is an online poster creation service. PosterOven offers multiple templates and designs for users to create their own PDF posters with their social media information and QR codes.

The PosterOven API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of PosterOven with other applications. Some example API methods include populating templates, creating posters, and displaying posters.

PuppetLabsPuppetLabs API: PuppetLabs offers IT automation services for system administrators. PuppetLabs automates IT systems for users to manage their IT systems and identify problems and security issues.

The PuppetLabs API allows developers to access and integrate the functionality of PuppetLabs with other applications. Some example API methods include managing SSL certificates, viewing security issues, and running instances.

RainCaptchaRainCaptcha API: RainCaptcha provides anti-spam protection in the form of a CAPTCHA test. The distorted text the test produces is designed to be easy for people to read, but hard for machines to decipher. RainCaptcha requires no registration and is free for both personal and commercial use. It works on any web server and is easy to implement thanks to its reliance on APIs for integration.

Real MagnetReal Magnet API: The service provides blast email and promotional campaign messaging with mobile and social networking access. Campaigns can target messages to specified recipient lists, delivering formatted emails with supporting SMS text and social platform messaging and potential for survey responses. Reporting functions help with tracking of message delivery and effectiveness, providing metrics for assessing campaign effectiveness.

API methods support integration of the messaging functionality with other applications, including popular customer relationship management (CRM) and association management systems (AMS). Methods also support access to metric analysis and reporting functions.

RefinderRefinder API: The service provides search and retrieval across multiple storage and data repositories to identify items in different locations that have relevance to a common topic or project. Users can link files stored in local and cloud storage platforms, calendar items, social network posts, and other kinds of content created and held in separate locations. Retrieval then gathers linked items to support work to which they all relate.

API methods support creation of a unique identifier (URI) for "things" of many types, including notes, bookmarks, files, locations, people, organizations, etc. Each identifier is linked to others with some shared relevance for the user, along with location that allows retrieval. Linked things can then be retrieved together, wherever they may be stored or physically located.

Rezdy newRezdy new API: Rezdy is an online booking and reservation platform. Users can accept reservations and bookings online through their websites with Rezdy features.

Roleplayer's Online Dice RollerRoleplayer's Online Dice Roller API: The Roleplayer's Online Dice Roller is a free tool for rolling dice for roleplaying games. The Roleplayer’s Online Dice Roller API allows users to integrate the Dice Roller into applications through a RESTful interface. Results may be returned in JSON, JSONP, XML, or plain text format.

Roll the DiceRoll the Dice API: The Roll the Dice API is a simple GET call to roll dice on the web. Users may specify the number of sides on the dice. Roll the Dice is a RESTful API built upon the Get/Set API specification. Results are returned in JSON or JSONP format.

ScholarometerScholarometer API: The service provides crowdsourced ratings of impact by scholars on their fields through citation analysis that evaluates how frequently their published papers appear in reference lists of other papers. Rankings rise when a scholar's work is cited more frequently and by other scholars whose work also is highly ranked. It is available as a browser plug-in, which tracks users' interactions with papers discovered during research in Google Scholar, and as a web service with full API access to all ratings data.

API methods support retrieval of a list of authors tracked in the system, or simply the number of authors tracked, with potential to filter by Thomson Reuters Citation Index and by discipline. Methods allow retrieval of ratings data for a particular author or set of authors specified by name or system identifier. Methods also allow retrieval of lists of disciplines tracked and possible overlaps or other relationships between them.

SendoriSendori API: The service provides selective rerouting for URLs directly entered to catch common typos and URL variants then route them to the correct addresses for the desired sites. It prevents diversion of traffic to sites with analogous or variant URLs, which protects web users from malware often promoted by such sites and ensures that traffic intended for a site actually arrives there. URL rerouting specific to advertising campaigns can help to direct traffic to intended promotional messaging, increasing the value of paid advertising.

API methods support targeting advertising campaigns and managing traffic to campaign-specific URLs. Methods also support grouping separate ads for common management. The API provides extensive reporting on ad performance and related traffic, including key metrics like average position and average cost per click (CPC), as well as administrative functions of the service such as budgeting advertising expense.

ServiceObjects DOTS NCOA LiveServiceObjects DOTS NCOA Live API: The service provides access to a database of over 50 million permanent change-of-address (COA) requests registered with the U.S. Postal Service. It processes raw output from the USPS NCOALink service, updated weekly, and makes it available for comparison with current address records. Where a mailing list contains an old address, the service can provide updated mailing information allowing direct mail and other communications to follow past contacts to their new locations.

API methods support submission of at least 100 address records for comparison against old addresses listed in USPS COA requests. Where a match is found, the API returns a validated new address for the recipient to be updated in the calling application's records. Methods also allow reporting on the number of addresses updated and their validation status.

SetGetGo GUIDSetGetGo GUID API: The Guid API provides users with a simple GET call to generate a GUID. A GUID is a globally unique identifier stored as a 128-bit integer. The GUID API is a RESTful API built upon the Get/Set API specification.

SetGetGo IP GeolocationSetGetGo IP Geolocation API: The Geolocate an IP API provides users with a simple GET call to retrieve the International Organization for Standardization country code for a given IP address. Geolocate an IP is a RESTful API built upon the Get/Set API specification. Results are returned in JSON or JSONP format.

SetGetGo Random ImageSetGetGo Random Image API: The Random Image API provides users with a simple GET call to generate a random image from the web. Users can specify image height and width, and have the option of generating a random Mandelbrot fractal image. Random Image is a RESTful API built upon the Get/Set API specification. Results are returned in JSON or JSONP format.

SetGetGo Random WordSetGetGo Random Word API: The Random Word API provides users with a simple GET call to generate a random word. Random Word is a RESTful API built upon the Get/Set API specification. Results are returned in JSON or JSONP format.

SetGetGo Simple CryptoSetGetGo Simple Crypto API: The Simple Crypto API provides users with a simple GET call to encrypt or decrypt plaintext. Encryption uses the 256 bit Rijndael algorithm. The Simple Crypto API is a RESTful API built upon the Get/Set API specification.

Sony Online Entertainment DataSony Online Entertainment Data API: Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) is a leader in massively multiplayer online games. Some of it's most popular titles include EverQuest, EverQuest II, Champions of Norrath, PlanetSide, Free Realms, Clone Wars Adventures, and DC Universe Online. The SOE data API allows users to request information directly from SOE regarding the status of a game or game entity (e.g. character, item, spell, etc.). The API uses RESTful calls and responses are formatted in XML, JSON and YAML.

StudyStackStudyStack API: StudyStack is a web site that lets visitors use their computer to display a Stack of "virtual cards" which contain information about a certain subject. Subjects include, Geography, History, Math, Languages, Science, and Medicine. StudyStack provides a REST API to access the flashcards entered by the users of the site. The API can return an array of a user's stacks, contents of a stack, categories and stacks within a category. Responses are formatted in JSON. Any data returned from the studystack API must not be made visible to search engine robots.

TaxiFareFinderTaxiFareFinder API: TaxiFareFinder is a taxi fare calculation ser ice that uses a proprietary algorithm that uses data from over 150 localities, distance, duration, and possible trip factors like traffic, driving speed, urban density, and wait times to determine that rate you pay for a ride. The TaxiFareFinder API uses REST calls and returns JSONP. The service allows users to embed the FareFinder technology into websites and applications.

TheBeerSpotTheBeerSpot API: TheBeerSpot provides viewers and users with information and ratings on beer, as well as a place to discuss them. TheBeerSpot API allows users to use the site's beer and brewery data and access site features using a third-party website or application. The API uses REST calls and returns JSON. An API and account with TheBeerSpot is required. The service is free and uses SSL for Authentication.

TiddlySpaceTiddlySpace API: TiddlySpace lets users organize their thoughts and ideas so that they are available wherever, whenever, and however they're needed.
