8 New APIs: Comics, Google, and Japanese Games

This week we had 8 new APIs added to our API directory ranging from comics, to Videos, to Japanese game search and Romanian geocoding. Of course the big API story of the week came from Google and their Google Wave announcement. The other new APIs in this set once again represent a diverse lot -- here's the full list:

Comic VineComic Vine API: This API lets you access and search Comic Vine's listing of comic books, characters, creators and publishers. The API follows the organization that Comic Vine users are accustomed to, with categories such as characters, concepts, locations, powers, and objects.

Google WaveGoogle Wave API: As they describe: "Google Wave is a product that helps users communicate and collaborate on the web. A "wave" is equal parts conversation and document, where users can almost instantly communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more. Google Wave is also a platform with a rich set of open APIs that allow developers to embed waves in other web services and to build extensions that work inside waves."

IRL ConnectIRL Connect API: IRL Connect is a "visual social network that lets you follow your friends on the map and see what they are saying and doing through conversations, photos, videos and live streaming broadcasts from mobile devices. You can even integrate it with your Facebook and Twitter accounts to update your status and connect with friends from multiple networks."

ondi.ro Geocodingondi.ro Geocoding API: Our first API on PW that's tagged 'romania', ondi.ro is a project which aims to provide geographical information about Romania through simple web services. Pseudo Geocoding (place name support, no full address) and reverse Geocoding services are provided. The API also includes support for the GeoRSS standard.

ViaPostViaPost API: This API allows users to send physical post directly from their computer to any address in the UK. The electronic document to be mailed is printed at a location close to where it needs to go for physical mailing.

VideoSurfVideoSurf API: VideoSurf is video search engine that allows users to search, discover and watch online videos. Using computer vision VideoSurf "allows computers to find content inside videos to let users find and watch videos. VideoSurf's APIs allow you to search and display the index of millions of online videos, along with computer vision features, on your own website. Intelligently selected thumbnail images as well as a full visual summary of each video, titles, descriptions, related tags, related topics, and more. With the API, developers have the ability to refine result sets by characters that appeared in the videos; include/exclude results by video provider, and the ability to refine results by content type."

VysrVysr API: Vysr "is for taking your web services and social networks with you anywhere on the web. Vysr has RoamAbout Business and RoamAbout Social downloads so that browsers then have an overlay. With the overlay, certain text is highlighted per page, an app-launching tray appears on the right of the browser, and a search bar appears at the top of the page. The app that you build could be part of the Vysr app download gallery and part of users RoamAbout launching tray. The RA OpenSocial container currently supports Facebook, Friendster, and Bebo, and is being expanded."
