ABB Announces Open API Platform for Smart Home Automation

ABB Group, a company that provides power and automation products, systems, and services, has announced the availability of a new API Platform for smart home automation. The company took a major step forward in 2017 with the release of the Smarter Home Developer Program. Today’s announcement is a natural extension of lessons learned from previous endeavors.

The company currently boasts almost 5 million components available for its ABB-free@home system, which operates in over 40 countries. With this new open API platform, ABB hopes to move closer to the goal of “delivering full electric appliance Integration to developers and partners.” The announcement of the platform stated that the company hopes:

“This move will help to make our living spaces ever more supportive of our needs, making them more comfortable, welcoming, environmentally friendly and secure for the future.”

ABB has already worked with Sonos, Signify, and Amazon Alexa to provide streamlined integration for third-party developers using the ABB-free@home systems. Developers hoping to integrate with ABB’s system can get started at the MyBuildings Portal, which is part of ABB’s digital platform ABB Ability.
