Appery.io, app building platform, has partnered with MetaCert to add new security options to apps built with Appery.io. Appery.io developers can integrate the MetaCert Security API via an easy to use plug-in. MetaCert adds a security layer to apps by checking the reputation of web links in real-time.
Appery.io and MetaCert announced the partnership at last week's RSA Conference. The RSA Conference represents one of the IT security industry's most important events. As suspected, data points and statistics presented at the conference painted a dire picture when it comes to IT security. Accordingly, attending vendors all pitched their products to address such concerns. MetaCert co-founder and CEO, Paul Walsh, addressed one set of presented statistics specifically around phishing schemes:
"While these points are true, it paints an incomplete picture. Phishing attacks don't just happen via email anymore. As I've written many times, apps with a WebView expose end-users to potential phishing attacks."
Walsh explained to ProgrammableWeb how important and groundbreaking the partnership truly is:
"Appery.io is now the first cloud-based platform with integrated backend services to offer developers a Security API for blocking malicious links and nsfw content inside native and hybrid apps."
To demonstrate the partnership functionality, Appery.io built a sample app for developers to test. Developers can expand the sample app to the desired extent and then add security to an app. Once developers set the API key, test links can be entered to demo functionality. For more detailed information, visit the MetaCert docs. Appery.io boasts of over 200,000 developers on its platform. A thin, but powerful security layer powered by MetaCert should only attract more developers and greater expose web vulnerabilities uniquely presented by the mobile web.
