Arm and Disarm Home Security Systems with Alexa

Amazon recently announced its Alexa Security Panel Controller API. The API allows users to connect security systems to Alexa. Instead of manually punching in your pin and then pressing the "arm" button, imagine turning on your security system by saying, "Alexa, arm my security system."

Through the API, users can arm, disarm, and query security systems through Alexa. Alexa supports arming security systems in away, home, stay, and night modes. For customers whose systems require a 4 digit pin, the option to continue using the pin or using an Alexa-specific voice code are both available.

Developers point the Alexa.SecurityPanelController interface to a security panel Endpoint to begin Integration. The security panel endpoint is the device that controls a security system. For more details on setting up a new devices and utilizing, check out the API docs.

A number of home security providers are already leveraging these features. ADT, Ring, Honeywell Home, abode, and Scout Alarm are a few. The API is now available in the US.
