AWS JavaScript SDK Now Supports Amazon S3 Select

The AWS JavaScript SDK now supports the Amazon S3 selectObjectContent API (Amazon S3 Select). Through Amazon S3 Select, developers can query Amazon S3 objects for a subset of data. The query is made using SQL expressions.

Responses are streamed as a series of events. Accordingly, there is no need to return the entire API response at one time. This is a more efficient use of compute as applications process response portions as the app receives the requests. JavaScript supports the new function through the use of asynchronous events in Node.js.

Amazon S3 Select can query objects in CSV or JSON formats. Standard SQL expressions are used. Amazon published a CSV example in its blog post announcement. Learn more about Amazon S3 Select on GitHub.
