Coinding is launching a Bitcoin GameDev Hackathon that focuses on promoting the inclusion of bitcoin in gaming. The contest is open to anyone, as long as the game entries use blockchain technology in some way.
The folks at Coinding believe that there are exciting possibilities for bitcoin games if developers will tap in to the full potential of what bitcoin can achieve. As it stands, there aren't many games that use cryptocurrencies, and it's most likely as a means to encourage more development in the bitcoin gaming arena that Coinding is putting out this prize-winning incentive. In an article on Cointelegraph explaining the hackathon, Coinding's CEO, Emiliano Velazquez, is quoted as saying:
We're looking to create better ways for game developers to fundraise their games, for e-sports players to earn money doing what they enjoy, and new ways for gamers to be rewarded in game.
To make things a little simpler, the company has provided a public API that will help developers easily integrate bitcoin into their games. It's not a requirement, but it can be used to do things like integrate donations and payments, get information about the bitcoin network and bitcoin wallets, and tip other players.
Prizes will total $5,500, with $3,000 being awarded for first place. Submission deadline is Feb. 2, and the winners will be announced on Feb. 5. Those interested in taking part can find more information on Coinding's website.
