Daily API RoundUp: Metacog, 99designs, b-semantic, Scribe Software

Every day, the ProgrammableWeb team is busy, updating its three primary directories for APIs, clients (language-specific libraries or SDKs for consuming or providing APIs), and source code samples. If you have new APIs, clients, or Source Code examples to add to ProgrammableWeb’s directories, we offer forms (APIs, Clients, Source Code) for submitting them to our API research team. If there’s a listing in one of our directories that you’d like to claim as the owner, please contact us at editor@programmableweb.com.

We’ve added 6 APIs to ProgrammableWeb in Software-as-a-Service, Semantics, and Learning Management Systems categories, among others. Here’s a summary of what is new to the directory today.

99designs is a design marketplace. The company offers quick turnaround on small design tasks such as photo retouching, business card updates, or image vectorizing. Use the 99designs Task RESTful API to create a new task, view and update current tasks, or manage file attachments.

We’ve primarily categorized the 99designs Task API under the Design category. See ProgrammableWeb’s complete list of Design APIs.

Scribe Software makes data Integration tools for developers and other users. Subscribers of the service can use the Scribe Online API for functions such as: provisioning agents, inviting users, creating IS and RS solutions, cloning existing IS solutions, assigning and reassigning agents to solutions, and more. We’ve listed the API under the Software-as-a-Service category. See ProgrammableWeb’s complete list of Software-as-a-Service APIs.

Use b-semantic’s Text extraction testdrive to extract and analyze web text. The b-semantic API contains endpoints for text extraction, entity extraction, and similarity computing. Use the text extraction service to extract the main text elements from a URL or HTML source code. The API identifies entities mapped to Wikipedia articles, and the similarity Web Service will compute the similarity of one source to another.

This API is listed under the Semantics category. See ProgrammableWeb’s complete list of Semantics APIs.

Whoxy is a WHOIS search engine. The Whoxy API is a hosted web service that queries WHOIS registries for WHOIS registrars and parses returned data into XML or JSON. Whoxy also offers reverse lookup, history lookup, and API balance check endpoints. We’ve categorized the Whoxy API under the Domains category. See ProgrammableWeb’s complete list of Domains APIs.

National University of Singapore Integrated Virtual Learning Environment (IVLE) API provides access to course information for interested students, instructors, administrators, and developers. The IVLE API offers programmatic access to academic programs, class rosters, group projects, media space, staff, webcast and classroom systems information, and much more.

Metacog’s learning data Platform allows users to create projects, quizzes, and problem sets to measure and track student learning. The Metacog API is JSON based and RESTful. Use the API to request data generated from learning objects: retrieve training session IDs and events, request scoring data, and more.

We’ve listed the Metacog API as well as the National University of Singapore Integrated Virtual Learning Environment API under Learning Management Systems. See ProgrammableWeb’s complete list of Learning Management Systems APIs.
