Foursquare Launches Updated Places Database and New Enterprise API

Foursquare, a location data company best known for its City Guide, has announced the relaunch of its Places database and has released a new Places Enterprise API to accompany the update. These announcements are intended to bolster the company’s point-of-interest data offerings and expand data availability.

The retooling of Foursquare’s database follows the company’s recent merger with Factual and is intended to result in a more robust and accurate location data Resource. Foursquare believes that these enhancements are especially attractive to enterprise customers. Josh Cohen, Foursquare’s SVP of Product, stated that:

“By evolving the quality of our POI data and creating a delivery method tailored for enterprise use, Places can serve as not only a tool to solve complex business problems but a foundational building block that helps to power an enterprise.”

The Places Enterprise API is currently in beta, with the company intended to move the product into general availability later this month. In order to improve the overall developer experience when working with this new API, the company has simplified endpoints, added new Documentation, and will include a new API explorer tool.
