Garmin Simplifies Third-Party Route Syncing with the Connect Courses API

Garmin, a provider of GPS solutions, has announced the release of an all-new Connect Courses API. The new API will allow developers to integrate with Garmin’s GPS devices and directly import course directions. The API has already been implemented in the extremely popular Strava and Komoot applications.

Garmin previously forced athletes to rely on the more laborious process of manually syncing routes via Garmin Connect. This new API removes that barrier and allows third-party applications to automatically sync routes with all Garmin devices that use .FIT files.

The API appears to be available only to partners at the moment, although it is possible that reaching out to Garmin could be all it takes to gain access. A quick check on the company’s developer forum didn’t show any mention of the new API.
