Google Announces Apigee Extensions

Google recently announced the release of Apigee Extensions, a feature within the company’s API management Platform that aims to simplify the process of interacting with various Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services.

Previously developers using Apigee Edge to build APIs were required to use the platform’s ServiceCallout Function to access external services. This process proved to be error prone and time intensive as every API proxy needed to be manually configured. Apigee Extensions is intended to streamline the process of interacting with a handful of services, including: Google Cloud FunctionsTrack this API, Cloud Authentication, Cloud Data Loss Prevention (templates support), Cloud Machine Learning Engine, and BigQuery services. The new offering provides developers with an interface for selecting and configuring services.

This release also comes with the announcement of added support for Salesforce as an Apigee Extension. The inclusion of Salesforce as an extension provides Salesforce users with streamlined support for interacting with data in their company’s Salesforce instance.
