Instagram Urges Immediate Transition to Graph API as Legacy API Deprecation Looms

Instagram had previously reported that the company would deprecate the Legacy API Platform on March 2nd, 2020. As that date approached Instagram was forced to delay the deprecation date until March 31, 2020, to provide developers the time needed to transition.

ProgrammableWeb had previously covered this transition in October of 2020, noting several reasons that the company favors the new Instagram Graph APITrack this API. It is important to note that both APIs that will handle the responsibilities previously covered by the legacy API require App Review. This process can take several weeks, a potential breaking issue if developers do not start the migration process with enough time.

The company has provided migration guides for both the Instagram Graph API and the Instagram Basic Display API.
