MuleSoft Announces Titan Release of Anypoint Platform

MuleSoft, a company that provides an integration platform for connecting enterprise and SaaS applications, has announced the Titan release of its Anypoint platform. The Titan release of the MuleSoft Anypoint platform features several new capabilities including a container service for multi-cloud deployments and an end-to-end monitoring solution. The release also includes a number of new MuleSoft certified connectors.

Anypoint is a hybrid integration platform for designing, testing, and deploying APIs and API integrations. These APIs and API integrations enable enterprises to build a network of devices, applications, and data in the cloud, on-premises, or in a hybrid environment (both in the cloud and on-premises).

The Titan release includes Anypoint Runtime Fabric, a new container service for deploying Mule runtimes across physical on-premises servers, virtual machines (VMs), and most common cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Docker and Kubernetes are built-in so for these container services no resources are required to support or maintain orchestration and automation.

This latest release of Anypoint also includes a number of new MuleSoft certified connectors including (but not limited to) Microsoft Office 365, Amazon DynamoDB, Google DFP, and SAP BusinessObjects BI. A connector is a click and install method of integrating third-party APIs and standard integration protocols with Mule applications. Connectors are available via the Anypoint Exchange which is a listing of assets that includes connectors, templates, examples, APIs (REST, SOAP, HTTP), RAML fragments, and custom components.

One of the biggest changes that the Titan release of the AnyPoint platform introduces is the native support for both RAML and the OpenAPI Specification. In fact, access to the API's design and description in either language is simultaneously accessible from two tabs at the bottom of the same screen (see screenshots). For example, if the user starts with a RAML-based API design, AnyPoint automatically populates the OAS tab with the OAS-equivalent.

One of two tabs on the same screen provides users of the Titan release of MuleSoft's AnyPoint platform with native access to an API's model in the RAML Specification.

The other of the two tabs on the same screen provides users of the Titan release of MuleSoft's AnyPoint platform with native access to an API's description in the OpenAPI Specification.

We reached out to Aaron Landgraf, senior product marketing manager, MuleSoft, who provided a few details about the Anypoint Titan release. Anypoint features compliance capabilities so that enterprises can meet government initiated standards regulations like EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Landgraf explained that "Titan introduces the EU control plane, which allows customers using MuleSoft’s cloud capabilities for management and design to meet data residency requirements by keeping all data and metadata associated with Anypoint Platform deployments in the EU. Additionally, new automatic tokenization capabilities in Anypoint Security allow customers to easily protect sensitive data in motion to further reduce compliance scope."

Another new feature included in the Titan release is a monitoring solution that allows APIs and integrations to be monitored end to end. The solution provides access to historical log data across APIs and integrations so that operations teams can quickly identify issues and analyze the root cause of problems. Landgraf explained that "Anypoint Monitoring complements the functionality of Runtime Manager and supplements it with more visibility around application, component, and infrastructure uptime. It does not replace Runtime Manager’s functionality. The two together work to supplement each other in one single, unified interface in Anypoint Platform."

"With increasing number of applications and software entering organizations, there are increased demands on IT teams as they need to figure out how to manage everything across teams and regions, while enabling innovation securely and at scale," Landgraf told ProgrammableWeb. "The architecture that the organization has heavily invested in and current security infrastructure become blockers to innovation. The Titan release of Anypoint Platform furthers MuleSoft’s application network vision and helps move IT from maintenance to being a catalyst for transformation. The latest release provides increased flexibility, visibility and built-in security to improve operational efficiency and empowers teams across the business to add and reuse composite applications in the application network at speed"
