New APIs: Internet Metrics and Advocacy

We've been covering lots of new APIs in the blog lately like the Trulia API launch and the new Google Apps APIs, but there are a couple other new ones to check-out:

  • Democracy In Action API: No sooner did we profile a set of government-related APIs than another one was added. From their profile: "We're a progressive nonprofit whose core activity is providing e-advocacy tools to other progressive nonprofits for pennies on the dollar relative to the fees demanded by the private sector. In our capacity as service provider, we offer cutting-edge communication tools enabling our user organizations to do everything from sending mass e-mail blasts to taking donations online. The Democracy In Action HTML API allows advanced users of the DIA tools to build custom, off-site interfaces to the data stored in their DIA account."
  • Compete API: Compete SnapShot provides information for every site on the internet including site traffic history and competitive analytics a list of available promotional codes across thousands of online retailers and site-specific trust scores based on up-to-the-minute data from Compete and third party security services. Your site or application can display some of Competes most powerful data by using the Compete SnapShot API. Compete uses API management services from Mashery. In general, I've heard lots of good things about Compete.

And the first mashup using the Compete API has been listed: Domain Tools. Which in addition to giving you plenty of useful information about any of the 87,058,540 Internet domains in existence, it also gives you their Compete rank and integrates back to the Compete listing for that domain.
