Shiver Me Timbers. It's An API fer talkin' Like A Swashbuckling Pirate!

Landlubbers, you better get your sea legs ready, international talk like a pirate day is fast approaching on Wednesday September 19th!  What started as a joke among a few friends in 2002 has grown into an international phenomenon.  Here's what you need to know to bring you up to speed with all the recent technological advances to enable your talk like a pirate revelry. First off is the ArrrPI for translating the language of landlubbers into the parlance of pirates.

The API was created by Tom Hughes-Croucher for talk like a pirate day 2009, and I would venture that it would be the primary tool for setting off waves of pirate talking around the internets.  The API can be used to convert entire pages to pirate speak, just by adding this code to the bottom of your page:

<script src="http://l.yimg.com/d/lib/ydn/js/pirate1252961643.js"></script>

That's enough to get you going, and could even be the core functionality of a viral mobile app.  Go create one and maybe it could be featured here as the Mashup of the Day!

A few more points to up your talk like a pirate day savvy:

This guide wouldn't be complete without an homage to the creators of talk like a pirate day, so here's Cap'n Slappy & Ol' Chumbucket to send you off.  Now go forth create the pirate speak technology of tomorrow!
