Square Bolsters Integration Ecosystem Via Snippets API

Today at Square Unboxed, the digital payment company’s fifth annual developer conference, the company has announced a collection of new developer tools that aim to help partners build engaging and interactive payment experiences. These announcements include early access to a new API that enables the creation of Platform extensions that will be available in the Square Online community marketplace.

Through the creation of extensions for Square Online, via the new Snippets API, developers can build eCommerce tools for use by the community to streamline future integrations. Developers that have applied to become Square App Partners, can add their custom extensions to the marketplace via a manual review of the Integration. The company highlighted chatbots, marketing pop-ups, and customer review tools as examples of the kind of extensions that partners have built.

Fomo, a company that offers a social marketing product, spoke to the value of this new extension platform and the ease with which it enables its customers to begin using its product:

“Square Online sellers can easily embed Fomo with just one click, without needing to touch any code. From a technical perspective, the Snippets API was straightforward and easy to use, and our devs were able to get a working solution in just a couple of hours.”

Square has also added a new Web Payments SDK that is a JavaScript browser client SDK designed to enable secure payment card entry. Developers also gain access to a new Loyalty API that allows for programmatic access to account creation and management for Loyalty program customers.
