From Twitter Photos to Natural Language Processing - 9 New APIs this Week

This week we added another 9 open APIs to our web service directory. As with last week's new APIs, they cover quite a range. First, in yet another example of an API-on-an-API there's the TweetPhoto API for photo sharing on top of Twitter. There are 3 new telephony-related APIs from Orange, the new music event-centric Gigulate API, and the Amplify API that aims to extract semantic meaning from text and HTML documents via natural language processing. Here's an outline of those as well as the other new APIs from this past week:

AmplifyAmplify API: Amplify is a "web service developed by Hapax that brings human understanding to content. Using patented Natural Language Processing technology, Amplify reads and understands every word used in text. It identifies the significant topics, brands, people, perspectives, emotions, actions and timescales and presents the findings in an actionable XML structure."

AppspotImageAppspotImage API: Using the Appspotimage web service "you will be able to integrate image management functionalities into your applications and you will be able to store, retrieve and generate these images and their thumbnail using Google's fast and reliable infrastructure." Feature list includes: host images online and make them publicly available, create thumbnails, resize images, crop images, rotate images, flip images, and optimize colors.

btextybtexty API: btexty allows you to send long messages and multimedia content via text message. btexty enables users to communicate with many friends at once with group messaging and store private messages securely. The btexty API exposes some of btexty functionality such as messages and recipients.

GigulateGigulate API: Gigulate provides information about music news, blogs, and upcoming gigs. Gigulate also charts artist popularity across the web. Gigulate's API provides developer access to these listings and data.

KloutKlout API: Klout and their API let you "track the impact of your opinions, links and recommendations across your social graph. We collect data about the content you create, how people interact with that content and the size and composition of your network. From there, we analyze the data to find indicators of influence and then provide you with innovative tools to interact with and interpret the data."

Orange Mobeasy PlatformOrange Mobeasy Platform API: The Orange Instant Mobeasy Platform API "optimizes user experience by allowing you to deliver custom mobile friendly web pages to any mobile device. The Mobeasy Platform transforms web pages, making them suitable for the destination device. Using the platform, developers can publish mobile-friendly web pages and adapt them to the intended mobile device, dynamically adapt the content of the pages, including pictures, and re-direct non-mobile users to the equivalent desktop version of the web page."

Orange VoicemailOrange Voicemail API: The Voicemail API from Orange "allows you to access your voicemail messages within your web application. You will be given your own voicemail number and messages left on this number will be available for retrieval through the API in MP3 format. The API allows users to manage their voicemail inbox and list voicemail messages with the date and time they were left."

Orange VoiceMashupOrange VoiceMashup API: The VoiceMashup API from Orange allows you to "create an Interactive Voice Recognition (IVR) service using the VoiceXML language. An IVR service is an automated dialog made of recorded sounds and vocalised texts that can be operated via phone keypad. With the VoiceMashup API, developers can enable users to receive calls and play a message, and call anybody directly with a specific automated voice dialog."

TweetPhotoTweetPhoto API: TweetPhoto is "a free photo sharing service for Twitter. The service focuses on enhancing the applications developed around the Twitter API. TweetPhoto combines mobile and web-based social photo sharing. It combines a convenient and easy-to-use photo sharing experience with helpful tools.
