Unlock and Visualize Enterprise Data Using New WSO2 User Engagement Server

WSO2Earlier this month, ProgrammableWeb reported that WSO2 had launched the WSO2 App Factory, a brand new cloud-enabled enterprise DevOps Platform that allows project teams to collaborate on the creation, deployment and management of enterprise applications. WSO2 has just announced the launch of another brand new platform; the WSO2 User Engagement Server (UES), a platform that allows developers and enterprise professionals to create customized dashboards, microsites and gadgets with enterprise data and 3rd party data sources which makes it possible to convert volumes of data into valuable business insights and to create engaging user experiences.

The WSO2 UES was created with the concept in mind that "data is worthless if you don't communicate it" and allows users to visually present data in meaningful and engaging ways. According to a blog post written by Nuwan Bandara, Associate Technical Lead at WSO2, there are two primary types of user groups that would benefit from using the WSO2 UES; business users and focused developer groups. Business users can use the platform to quickly create gadgets and dashboards to display company statistics and other data. Developers can use the platform to create dynamic microsites that analyze and display enterprise data. WSO2 Founder and CEO Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, is quoted in the press release as saying:

"Business agility demands that more people in the enterprise have access to the tools they need to present data in a meaningful, easily accessible way. With WSO2 User Engagement Server, enterprises now have a single platform that business professionals and developers alike can use to quickly create feature-rich dashboards, microsites and gadgets for viewing, monitoring and analyzing their enterprise information and turn it into valuable insights."

The WSO2 UES is 100% open source and is built upon, and a replacement for, the WSO2 Gadget Server Portal platform. Platform features include (but not limited to):

  • Dashboard Composer - An interface that lets users create dashboards graphically. Designed for use by developers and non-technical users.
  • Jaggery IDE - An open source Web IDE that allows developers to create or edit microsites. Also allows developers to create both applications and APIs at the same time.
  • The Enterprise Store - Provides a central repository for gadgets, JavaScript libraries, and microsite and dashboard URLs, which developers and users can apply to their own sites.
