Weather Company Provides Disease Tracker API Access to Hackathon Participants

The Weather Company, which is a subsidiary of IBM, has announced developer access to a COVID-19 data API in support of IBM’s 2020 Call for Code Global Challenge. The new API, which can only be accessed by developers participating in the hackathon, provides the same data used in the Weather Company’s COVID-19 statistics pages.

The Weather Company Disease Tracker API aggregates COVID-19 data from the World Health Organization, state and local agencies, and other public sources. The data is provided down to a county level and is returned along with attribution to the original source. The API will provide information on confirmed cases, deaths, and recoveries over a period of up to 60 days in the past.

Developers that are already enrolled in the 2020 Call for Code Global Challenge can find information on accessing this API here. The weather company is also providing documentation and sample applications to help get developers started.
