Wowza Media Systems Entices Devs with $15,000 App Challenge

Wowza Media Systems, a leading media streaming software provider, has announced the Wowza Ninja App Challenge, a contest seeking developers to build unique and innovative video streaming mobile applications (iOS or Android) using the recently released Wowza REST API. The winner of the Wowza Ninja App Challenge will receive a $15,000 cash prize and will be recognized at the 2015 NAB Show in Las Vegas.

Wowza Media Systems has recently released a suite of Wowza Streaming Engine REST APIs, which provide programmatic access to the Wowza Streaming Engine Platform. The Wowza Streaming Engine is media server software that powers streaming of high-quality video and audio to any device. The platform requires a Java Runtime Environment and can be deployed on-premises or on cloud hosting services, including Amazon EC2, Google Compute Engine, Microsoft Azure and Rackspace.

The company is inviting developers to participate in the Wowza Ninja App Challenge where they will have a chance to win a $15,000 cash prize, and the winner will be announced at the 2015 NAB Show, which will be held in Las Vegas from April 11-16. Wowza is looking for developers to build innovative mobile applications that use the Wowza REST API to incorporate video streaming functionality. Application submissions will be judged on the overall User Experience as well as other criteria, including:

  • How well the Wowza REST API was adopted
  • Overall user experience
  • Originality
  • Quality and efficiency (stability, reliability, bug-free, etc.)

Developers interested in entering the Wowza Ninja App Challenge, which runs through March 2, must complete the contest entry form available on the official Wowza website. Please note that Wowza is requiring contest participants to accept a nondisclosure agreement to enter the REST API Preview Program for the competition.
