The number of available web search APIs has been reduced in recent months; Google and Yahoo have shut down a number of their web search APIs. This is the first part of a two-part article covering the state of web search APIs. The second part highlights search APIs provided by Google and Microsoft.
The new Google Patent Search API is now available and lets you search over 7 million patents via code. It is part of the AJAX Search API suite of content-specific Google search utilities such as book search, government search, code search and others.
Carroll Publishing, a government contact data-delivery service, recently published the GovSearch API, exposing the company’s directory of over 260K government contacts. The database includes contacts from over 40,000 government agencies.
