Recognize.im recently announced that its image recognition API service has publicly launched. Until now, the Recognize.im API remained accessible on an invite only basis. Recognize.im hopes to tap into the quickly growing image recognition market and target mobile shopping apps and advertising campaigns. The platform recognizes real-world objects and redirects customers to take action after the customer takes a photo of the object with a smartphone.
During the first few days of this December, over 1,000 civic technologists collaborated around the world during the Sanitation Hackathon. The Hackathon's mission was simple in words, but immense in potential impact: "to tackle leading sanitation challenges." Teams of developers joined to tackle various problem statements that threaten basic livelihood across the globe. Problem statements fell into one or more of seven categories (i.e. governance, handwashing, open defecation, rural, toilets, urban, and waste water).
StockTwits, a financial communications platform for the financial and investing community, has announced major enhancements to its API offering. The original release of the StockTwits API allowed third party apps to access the StockTwits social graph, integrate watch lists, share messages, and access charts directly from a third party application. With the new release, messages now include charts, videos, and user stats/sentiment. Additionally, community contributed data now links back to the site/app from where the contribution originated.
