We've all been there. We found a great song we love, but don't know the lyrics. Instinctively, you hit the Google search and wade through a sea of misspelled, poorly translated, out-of-date, or poorly interpretted lyrics listings. Granted, some songs come tagged with the lyrics, which is helpful, but that's not going to help the rest of your massive music collection of songs you've been singing along to. It's frustrating and it's messy, something the MusixMatch API could change.
David Engel and Brian Rucker found themselves wondering about mobile versions of websites. The system they built to detect whether mobile sites are displayed for five mobile operating systems is now available as the Company Data Trees Mobile Website Detection API and is the first "branch" of their new venture, Company Data Trees. When Engel and Rucker ran the top 200 sites (according to Alexa), they found about half have no mobile site, including LinkedIn and PayPal.
The App Engine team announced a new release 1.7.5 that is packed with major features that have been previewed over the last year. The focus is squarely on getting the most out of your App Engine applications by doubling the amount of RAM for certain App Engine instance types, making it easier to expose your App Engine functionality to mobile clients, experimental support for new Java 7 language features and a Eclipse plugin update.
