The InterSystems IRIS Sample Code is a sample repo that shows how to install pet store data used in the SQL QuickStart. It contains sample pet and petstore data and the scripts to load an instance, and show the benefits of SQL within the InterSystems IRIS Data Platform. This includes; implicit joins, bitmap indexes, the ability to use SQL with other data models in a multimodel approach and more. InterSystems is a global provider of database, integration, and analytics software in healthcare, finance and others.
One the one hand Big Data is supposed to be one of the best things to happen to IT since the invention of the database. After all, managing massive amounts of data should make IT more relevant than ever. But as Big Data continues to evolve it’s starting to look like managing all that data is beyond the scope of many IT organizations. As a result line of businesses are turning to raft of emerging Big Data services in the cloud that allow them to analyze massive amounts of data by invoking a relatively simple API.
There's a new Amazon acronym to learn. RDS stands for Relational Database Service and it is the newest addition to Amazon's suite of web services. Unlike previous data services from Amazon such as SimpleDB, RDS is relational (our profiles for the SimpleDB API and new RDS API). In fact, it's a MySQL 5.1 instance but the main difference is that it is hosted on a virtual server instance in Amazon's data center. And it can expand and contract as needed, programmatically. Like the Amazon APIs before it, RDS was built to provide developers access to Amazon's infrastructure, with pay-as-you-go pricing based on your usage.
