Google has announced a large overhaul of its Cloud Speech-to-Text product (formerly the Google Cloud Speech API). Google Cloud Speech-to-Text now supports a selection of pre-built models, automatic punctuation, recognition metadata, and standard service level agreement (SLA).

Feed it a string of text and the API returns the name of the language, its ISO code and even an image of the flag for a country that speaks the language (the latter could be a hot-button political issue--watch out). Merriam-Webster, the household name in dictionaries, launched the Merriam-Webster Dictionary API last week. The most trusted name in dictionary/thesaurus references has decided to make its resources available to developers through the new API. Merriam-Webster is making eight different resources available via the API.
