Ask Ziggy, best known as the "Siri for Window's Phone," has launched the Ask Ziggy API, which enables natural speech processing within any app. The API enables speech processing, but must be used in conjunction with other speech services to complete the offering (e.g. Nuance, AT&T, etc.). Ask Ziggy expects the API to be used primarily for enhanced in-app search features; however, the opportunities extend much further than basic search.
Fourteen APIs have been added to the ProgrammableWeb directory in categories including Insurance, 3D, Feedback, and Travel. Highlights include language data APIs from Linguatools, an API for life insurance quotes, and an API for rendering chart images. Here's a rundown of the latest additions.
If you've ever wanted to programmatically translate text from one language to another directly from code, there's a new web service from Microsoft Research you might want to try. It's the recently announced new Microsoft Translator AJAX API and web widget. The API provides automated translation of web pages and portions of web pages into 12 different languages including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Polish, and Russian. The Microsoft Research team plans to add more languages over time.
