The W3C moved beyond its initial Web of Things Interest Group into a Web of Things Working Group. The Working Group will work towards creating official W3C Recommendations for the IoT industry. Building on emerging standards, the Working Group will standardize APIs, security, definitions and more.
The trouble with the Internet of Things (IoT) is that it is more a concept than an actual platform on which to a developer can build applications. Cisco is looking to change that. Cisco, in partnership with nine other companies, today announced a plan to build Intercloud, a global cloud computing platform that will present developers with a standard set of APIs for building IoT applications.
The DataSift platform allows users to define a "stream" using filtering parameters such as keywords or locations. Users can immediately begin to receive data in real time as comments are posted on social media sites. With a license to access Twitter's full "Firehose", we offer users the ability to search for posts using all the metadata contained in a Tweet, making it a far more powerful search. Though we make the search available via the simple Datasift API, there's actually quite a bit that goes into it.
