When it comes to map mashups there's no doubt that Google Maps leads the way. On ProgrammableWeb we list 1,964 Google Maps mashups, almost four times as many as any other API. This popularity makes utilities built on top of Google Maps especially interesting, such as this contextual menu control, which pops up a menu when the user right clicks.
Nulab, a communication and collaboration applications company based in Japan, has announced the launch of the new Cacoo SDK edition which includes the brand new Cacoo SDK Edition API. Cacoo is a web-based collaborative drawing tool that allows users to create a variety of diagrams including sitemap, flowchart, mind map, wireframe, UML and network diagrams.
Developers with their own geographic imagery will soon be able to publish it as a layer on the Google Maps API and Google Earth API. Dubbed Google Earth Builder, the service will launch in the third quarter. From the looks of the announcement here at Where 2.0 conference, Google is dipping its toe into the traditional GIS industry. The maps developers upload will be available via API, but only to enterprise customers who pay Google for geo services.
