A company best known for its tools to help governments open their data now wants to provide the same aid to businesses. Socrata today launched the API Foundary, which can convert Excel spreadsheets (and other data repositories) into customizable APIs. The company will continue to focus on governments, but it also is courting enterprises--or anyone who wants to share data and "mass produce APIs."
Facebook has updated an API used by third-party applications to that allowed for cross-posting. The change breaks this functionality and one of the biggest impacts was felt by Twitter. Twitter users will no longer be able to create a Tweet and share it easily to their Facebook page.
In an apparent effort to improve its developer relations, Twitter has announced its plans to build what it calls "the next generation of the Twitter API." The first step: a new program called Twitter Developer Labs, which will allow developers to test and provide feedback on new API features.
