For music, there's Pandora. For film, there's Netflix. And now for art, there's Art.sy. Art.sy is an online storehouse of fine-art images as well as an art appreciation guide. This start-up's mission is to make all the world's art freely accessible to anyone with an internet connection, and is aimed specifically at those already comfortable with browsing image-driven websites on monitors and tablets. The Art.sy API helps promote accessibility on a developer level.
Sometimes we forget what the real purpose of all this fancy technology is. And what is that? To make our real lives easier. Mashups often help with that, allowing us to do such simple things as find a good beer, our favorite music artists, where the streetcars are, or where a park is.
The initial buzz at drinks for the end of day one of API Strategy and Practice was: “Our minds have been blown.” The audience response is evident from three talks yesterday at API Strategy and Practice in Amsterdam. Presentations aimed at developers moved from a global rethink of what coding actually is (Mike Amundsen) to how to think and manage APIs as the core unit in distributed systems (John Sheehan) to a best practice daily toolkit for developers writing code and integrating APIs (Bruno Pedro).
