Service discovery is not an easy task in today's Web. Discovering an API requires searching through a large number of services on the Internet and then reading pages of documentation to figure out how to use the ones that may match your application. This is the case in Programmable Web as well. The API directory shows over 5000 APIs which are manually categorized in over 50 service categories.
The Rekognition API differentiates its feature set by processing images to recognize more than just the location of faces. Rekognition's technology will analyze a given photo and present a list of scenes, each with a probability rating. Faces are not simply identified, but are also classified for age and emotion.
Seventeen APIs have been added to the ProgrammableWeb directory in categories including Recognition, Chat, and Satellites. Highlights today include the GDELT Geo API for visualizing news keywords and the Sellbrite API for multi-channel eCommerce functions. Here's a rundown of the latest additions.
