Location-based social game FourSquare no longer has limits to where it can be used. When users click on their city name below the header of the website, they see a search box to enter a new city. Previously the service supported about 100 cities worldwide and anyone who lived elsewhere was out of luck.
Favstar, a service that helps users "find great tweets and interesting people to follow", has announced that it will be shutting down next month because of changes Twitter is making to its APIs. Favstar's creator, Tim Haines, was left with no choice but to shut his service down due to API changes.
With President Barack Obama being sworn into office for a second term a lot of thoughts will naturally turn to how narrow his re-election actually was. The president did surprisingly well by carrying a much larger number of swing states than anybody thought possible. But each of those victories only came about because the turnout for the president was much higher than most anyone has expected in those states with the possible exception of the team of programmers that build the social media applications for the Obama for America campaign.
