BlindSquare founder, Ilkka Pirttimaa, once browsed over Wikipedia's Augmented Reality article and realized the concept focused solely on vision. Pirttimma believed the concept could expand to audio; thus, the idea for BlindSquare was born. The BlindSquare app provides "a new solution that combines the latest technology to help the daily life of the blind." BlindSquare pulls data from the FourSquare API and alerts users of restaurants, stores, and other locations surrounding them via audio instructions.
Ever since developers discovered the ability to directly manipulate large amounts of data using NoSQL databases, there has been a proliferation of database types across the enterprise. While an increase in the number of database options has been a boon to developers; it creates a level of unprecedented complexity when it comes to managing the overall enterprise IT environment.
In the age of the cloud, integration is everything. What was once a labor-intensive service is rapidly becoming a set of capabilities in the cloud that IT organizations can dynamically invoke as needed. We’re still some distance from making that integration process completely turnkey. But we’re getting a little closer with each passing day.
