As the national library of the United States, the Library of Congress has created vast amounts of metadata to describe books and other documents in its collection. Among this metadata is the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), a "controlled vocabulary" for classifying documents by subject.
In January, OnStar announced an API would allow third party developers to integrate their applications with OnStar's platform. Last week, General Motors announced its first partner for API integration: RelayRides. RelayRides is "[t]he world's largest peer to peer carsharing marketplace." The partnership with GM allows OnStar users to leave their keys in their cars when renting a car to a fellow RelayRider. The renter can then unlock the car with a smartphone app or by responding to a text message.
The US Department of Education has issued a Request for Information (RFI) regarding the use of APIs in higher education data, student aid programs and processes. The goal of the RFI is to gather ideas that will increase the openness of higher education data, processes, and aid to students and families. The RFI is directed towards all interested parties, and submissions will be accepted through June 2, 2014.
