While adoption and usage of APIs tends to vary widely across different vertical industries, the one segment that has benefited most from APIs is online media. Thanks to APIs, the cost of distributing online content has dropped significantly thanks to online properties that need to content to attract people to their sites.
WebMeUp, SEO solution provider, started pushing its SEO API during the second half of 2013. Developer adoption has been rapid; thus, WebMeUp dedicated more attention to the API and has now released some major enhancements. The new offering includes location based services and increased accuracy for rankings data.
SEOmoz recently provided an API to their search engine optimization service, and inevitably comparisons were made to Site Explorer, which is a similar service offered by Yahoo. In a field where stats are king, the 500 links offered by the free SEOmoz service seemed to come up short against the 1000 links offered by Site Explorer. That has now changed, with SEOmoz doubling their volume of data available with their free API.
