The Bookboon PHP SDK by Bookboon is a PHP class wrapper for the Bookboon.com API. The Bookboon API makes bookboon.com books available to 3rd parties that want to have bookboon books integrated into their own applications. The API provides tools for categorizing, browsing, and searching.
Most mashups rely on some type of API that's freely provided by a public web site. ProgrammableWeb tracks thousands of these resources across dozens of categories. Generally, these interfaces are SOAP or REST-based, but they may also work in cooperation with other open formats like RSS or Atom. In an enterprise setting, mashups have a more diverse set of protocols to potentially leverage including JDBC/ADO.NET (databases), SMTP/IMAP (email), and SNMP (network monitoring). Unless you are building a data mashup, one of the participants API's is usually focused on visually representing the data. It could be the classic Google Maps API, or perhaps some type of charting (Google Charts is a great resource).
mBLAST has enhanced its mPACT API product in an attempt to target the academic community. Virtual-Strategy.com tells us that the new feature, titled mPACT API PhD,
"Is designed to provide discovery, scoring and analytics across traditional and social media for academic administrators and faculty alike, providing solutions to assist in faculty recruitment and assessment, in development and in alumni engagement."
The enhancement allows academic institutions to search for scholarly material presented by academics in non-traditional venues (e.g. blogs, social media, etc.).
