karmadata, a collaborative information service and platform, announced the launch of the new karmadata website and industry data platform at the 2013 Data 2.0 Summit that took place in San Francisco on April 30th. In addition, karmadata announced the launch of the brand new karmadata API that provides developers access to standardized linked data sets for specific industries including Energy, Healthcare, Legal, Technology and Socioeconomics.
The non-profit Sunlight Foundation, whose mission is to help others use the Internet to make information about the US government more accessible (and we've covered previously), recently released a very enlightening visualization of campaign contributions from 1990-2008, broken down by industry sectors and party lines.
The winners of NYC BigApps 2.0 competion have been announced. In one of the largest open government initiatives of its kind, the competition provided developers with access to over 350 sets of official New York City data and asked them to build applications on top of that. The public round of voting commenced in February, to choose from 58 applications that spanned mobile, web and SMS Apps that targeting various NYC public data sets.
