CalorieKing has launched "a Web service which enables other developers of weight management applications to readily incorporate CalorieKing's more than 65,000-item food database". TipTap Lab uses psychology to better understand existing and potential customers. The TipTap Lab API allows third party apps to take advantage of such psychology by building profiles for those that interact with the app and acting accordingly. Whether an app developer wants to personalize an online experience or pair up users with similar interests, the TipTap Lab API examines the abstract, subconscious layer of users to better and enable a developer to accomplish goals.
Less than two months ago, Merriam-Webster announced that some of its references would be available via an API. Now, competitor Cambridge University Press has followed suit with the Cambridge Dictionaries Online API. Currently, Cambridge offers five dictionaries through an API (i.e. Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary, Cambridge Dictionary of American English, Cambridge Business English Dictionary, Cambridge Learner's English-Turkish Dictionary, and Cambridge Leaner's Dictionary).
