Today, Golgi opened its doors with a mission to kill the spinning wheel icon that displays while poor-performing apps struggle to load and update. Golgi’s data transfer platform allows apps to receive information 20 times faster. On the eve of Golgi’s launch, ProgrammableWeb caught up with CTO Brian Kelly to better understand the platform.
One of the most fascinating, yet frustrating, aspects of anything to do with APIs is how rapidly the technology that serves as the foundation for the programmable web evolves. That dynamic volatility was in full view last week at the API Strategy and Practice conference in New York in the form of Daniel Jacobson, director of API engineering at Netflix.
Earlier this week Microsoft announced that it is making some of the imagery used in its Virtual Earth platform available for purchase (more on Virtual Earth in our VE SDK profile). The imagery, taken with Microsoft's proprietary UltraCam shown below is available for approximately 200 cities (in high resolution and averaging less than two years old).
