Shopify wraps up its annual developer conference today. The story of the week has been new and updated APIs. Shopify announced and introduced more than 11 new and updated APIs throughout the conference. The focus was on everything from international stores, to nuanced fulfillment control.
Kooaba offers image recognition through its Kooaba API, allowing you to compile metadata on objects in your photos. This can be used for product recognition and pricing, but could also be used to augment personal photo collections, which can be so large that they are nearly impossible to search by hand. There are tons of use cases for image recognition and this API should really open up the field and bring more applications to market.
Of all the markets being impacted by the booming API economy, perhaps none has seen as much activity and innovation as the payments space. The past several years have seen the launch of a number of disruptive and successful API-centric upstarts, including Stripe and Balanced. Meanwhile, entrenched players like PayPal and Verifone have responded with new offerings of their own.
