ServiceNow is a fairly widely used cloud software-as-a-service application that IT organizations use to manage the workflow around calls to help desks. But thanks to the API that ServiceNow built, that application is being more broadly used to create workflow applications outside the IT department.
One of the most efficient routes to market for any developer is through an application store that is used by a lot of other applications. For that reason there’s naturally a lot of interest in the AppStore from Apple, GooglePlay or app stores associated with specific cloud computing platform such as Salesforce.com. Essentially, all of these function as central points of application distribution.
A trend is starting to emerge: Advanced technologies are being made available first as cloud services that organizations can invoke easily via an API, rather than having to figure out how to deploy and master themselves. The latest example of that trend is a cloud service from AlchemyAPI that takes advantage of machine learning and computer vision technologies to allow publishers and providers of ad networks to more easily monetize content.
