Alcatel-Lucent, a leading global communications solutions provider and the parent company of ProgrammableWeb, has introduced a suite of nine "New Conversation APIs" that provide developers with easy access to IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) capabilities such as high definition voice and video, audio/video conferencing, interactive voice, messaging and call control. In addition, Alcatel-Lucent has launched a Developer Portal that allows access to the New Conversation APIs and a sandbox for developers to build and test their applications.
Stream.IO, a provider of chat and activity feed services, has announced updates to the company’s Chat SDKs for Android and iOS that add new features and improve network performance. The Stream Chat Android SDK is now on version 4.6.0 and the iOS SDK moves to 3.1.0.
Google has apparently backtracked on the idea of allowing third-party messaging apps to access RCS on Android phones. Though RCS is a public specification, APIs are needed to connect messaging apps to the RCS protocols employed by wireless network operators. No API means no RCS for outside apps.
