IBM Extends API Reach Across Emerging Cloud Ecosystem
Moving to expand the reach of its API footprint in the cloud, IBM today announced the availability of an open beta for BlueMix. BlueMix is a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offering that is based on the Cloud Foundry framework that IBM decided to support last year. IBM also announced the acquisition of Cloudant, a provider of a NoSQL database-as-a-service (DBaaS) platform.

Google continues to churn out releases to its platform-as-a-service Google App Engine API. Since the beginning of the year, there have been new releases every 4-6 weeks. The latest is out with focus on bringing parity between its Java and Python releases, a couple of new APIs that allow writing applications that monitor incoming live data and read/write files, and some task queue/cron updates.
