In January, OnStar announced an API would allow third party developers to integrate their applications with OnStar's platform. Last week, General Motors announced its first partner for API integration: RelayRides. RelayRides is "[t]he world's largest peer to peer carsharing marketplace." The partnership with GM allows OnStar users to leave their keys in their cars when renting a car to a fellow RelayRider. The renter can then unlock the car with a smartphone app or by responding to a text message.
Rapleaf wants to see more personalization apps built on its Rapleaf Personalization API. To support the expansion, the company will provide grants and services to companies via its just-launched $1 million fund. The investment approach is quickly joining contests and hackathons as ways for providers to woo developers.
Propel Data, an API platform intended to simplify the development of “in-product analytics with large-scale data,” has been launched by three former Twilio engineers. This new platform is billed as a product of the lessons learned by these founders during their time at the communication company.
