The Layer Ruby SDK by Benedikt Deicke is a Ruby client library for the Layer Platform API and the Layer Client Rest API. The Layer Platform API is a platform for all types of communication for the internet, web applications, and mobiles applications and the Layer Client Rest API provides developers with a set of endpoints for querying and performing operations. Layer allows users to build text messaging, voice messaging, and video functionality into applications for communication.
Most developers don’t take advantage of Short Message Service (SMS) as much as they could simply because negotiating the labyrinth of telecommunications service providers takes too much time. At the APIcon 2014 conference this week, Tom Lytle, developer evangelist for Nexmo, demonstrated how developers could use RESTful APIs to tap into a service that aggregates access to a range of two-way SMS services spanning the globe
In a bid for a larger chunk of the unified communications market, CounterPath announced an API for its Bria for Windows communications platform. The Vancouver company produces softphones, which allow users to make Internet phone calls (think Skype and Google Voice) from a computer or a mobile device. Although a relatively small player in the market, Counterpath has a respectable 10 million downloads of its client. Its client consists of X-lite, free, and Bria for commercial use. Bria offers voice and video over fixed, mobile and WiFi networks. It's ability to automatically switch to WiFi, allows users to stay connected while saving money.
