The Mapbox Android SDK by Mapbox allows interaction with the mapping features of the API. Resources include installation with Eclipse, Gradle, and source. Implementation references cover required permissions, the MapView, overlays, and screen rotation.
With a domain like map.pr, you'd think this would be another link shortener. Instead, it uses the Foursquare API to give you a great way to visualize popular places on FourSquare. And, if you're following the World Cup, you can also use Mappr to find spots frequented by fellow fans.
Gecko Landmarks is working on an easier way of giving directions. The theory behind their madness is that “everyone thinks in landmarks”. They took this idea and ran with it. In fact they have run all over the world with this idea. They have now collected landmark data for every country in the world. Most of this data is now available in the Gecko Landmarks API.
Foursquare just made the switch from using the Google Maps API, to joining the crowd-sourced, global OpenStreetMap movement. To do most of the heavy lifting, foursquare relied upon the still fairly new MapBox API.
