Single purpose API
Google has launched the latest release of its Google Maps SDK for iOS. The new release includes Bitcode support, new events, and a number of features previously limited to the Android SDK. Bitcode support eases developer interaction with the Apple Store, and new events enhance user-map engagement.
Another API can be added to the list of "Google APIs That Are No More." The Google Latitude service, including the Latitude API, will be shut down on August 9, 2013. Google Latitude is a geolocation sharing service that allows users to find friends and family on a map as well as share their current location with others they choose.
A little over a year ago, Google released a new product called Google Fusion Tables. Fusion Tables allows you to upload, merge, share, and visualize large tables of tabular data. I want to share it with people and create a map/bar chart/storyline/other visualization.” Google Spreadsheets, while powerful, couldn’t handle the 100 meg upload we allow for Fusion Tables. And, being Google, we also provided something for developers.
