Google Announces Java Support for App Engine
Today at its latest Campfire One event, Google announced major updates to Google App Engine, their scalable cloud computing platform for web applications. App Engine developers will soon be able to create web-scale applications using standard Java APIs, and will be able to create AJAX components using Google's Web Toolkit. Other major features include cron support for scheduling tasks, tools for securely accessing and importing data, and a new Google development plugin for the Eclipse IDE.

The XING API is Now Out of Beta
Germany-based "business social network" XING announced this week that the XING API is now officially out of beta, and invited external developers to register for access at dev.xing.com. Since March of this year, the XING API has been available as a "closed beta," and XING reported that over three thousand developers tried out the API during that period, "creating almost 150 active apps and producing around 17 million API requests per day."
