The Music Apps Hack Weekend held February 25-26 at New York City's SPiN Ping Pong Club invited developers to build music apps powered by the Spotify API. MixCloud is a combination of music discovery and promotion. It strives to serve the intersection of interests between listeners that want to find new and interesting music and artists that want to get their music in front of a wider audience. The idea is that you can get recommendations by following the music mavens of whichever genre you choose. Most people find new music through friends. Having a friend that’s plugged into the latest music trends keeps you jamming along to new stimulating tracks. Imagine if your friend’s knowledge of and refined taste in music were accessible by API. That’s what we’ve got with the MixCloud API.
AudioBoo brings the familiar tape-recorder type interface to the web with all the fixings. Take your audio recording, add a picture, a location, put it in a social context, throw in popularity ratings and you have AudioBoo. The simplicity and social aspects of this service make a great platform for podcasters while providing another avenue of media discovery for users. But it's new and still changing. If you're feeling like an adventurous explorer, ready for twists, turns and surprises, jump on in to the AudioBoo API.
